OPEN CALL FOR SUBMISSION to attend a semester course on "Transitional Justice: The role of the University in addressing issues of the past"

Through this notice, the University of Prishtina "Hasan Prishtina" – Faculty of Law, the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Kosovo and Community Building Mitrovica (CBM) invites all students to apply for participation in the course "Transitional Justice: The role of the University in addressing issues of the past".
The purpose of this course is to build the competencies of University of Prishtina through a program that will enable education of students in transitional justice, as a way to contribute towards peace building based on the values of human rights, cultural understanding, and community as a key factor for peace building. With the knowledge gained from this course, students in the future could be the promoter of the above values in their workplace and their professional careers.
This program introduces the theme on transitional justice at the University of Prishtina. This will be the first time that three thematic subjects (transitional justice, human rights, and peace building) are included as common subjects at the University of Prishtina in Kosovo.
This program may also serve as a basis for university activities that lead to the identification of the role of faculties and universities in transitional justice.
The expected outcome is that participants in this course:
• Will gain deeper insight knowledge in understanding and argumentation of transitional justice, human rights, and peace-building processes;
• Will be able to work on improving the understanding of the concept of transitional justice and respect for human rights with particular emphasis on the thematic issues of the Republic of Kosovo;
• Will acquire knowledge and skills to participate actively and positively in the issues of transitional justice, human rights and peace-building processes;
• Will gain deeper insight on the different cases of countries that have gone through the process of transitional justice, at regional and international level;
• Will be competent to transfer knowledge and skills gained in their personal and professional environments.
Areas to be covered:
• The concept, definition and historical context of transitional justice;
• Human rights and their relation with transitional justice;
• Mechanisms for implementation of transitional justice;
• Special international courts as a key factor in punishing violators of human rights;
• A study and a comparison of countries that have undergone through the process of transitional justice;
• A detailed analyze of transitional justice process in relation to the legal-insitutional and political discourse taken by the Republic of Kosovo;
After the lectures, students will enter the final exam to test their knowledge gained from this course or will write an essay on a selected topic related thematic units conducted throughout the course.
All participants, who will fulfill their obligations for this course will be given a participation certificate issued by the University of Prishtina "Hasan Prishtina" in cooperation with the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Kosovo.
Number of participants is limited to 25-30 students. Participants will be selected based on evidences submitted by the applicants. Attention will be given to accepting participants with proportional representation of both sexes, as well as members of different ethnic and religios communities.
This activity was initiated and is being implemented by the University of Prishtina "Hasan Prishtina", Faculty of Law. The project is funded by the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Kosovo. CBM is a Kosovo NGO partner in cooperation with the University of Prishtina "Hasan Prishtina".
The course will be conducted in Albanian and English.
