About CBM:

Community Building Mitrovica (CBM) is a local non-governmental organization (NGO) operating in the field of peace and community building in the wider region of Mitrovica, northern municipalities of Kosovo. The overall aim of CBM is to facilitate contact and dialogue between citizens in the whole of Mitrovica municipality. CBMs staff consists of devoted citizens – both Serbs and Albanians – who grew up in this region and want to restore the previous confidence and even friendship that war and politics have destroyed.

By supporting many concrete projects that address the direct needs of the local communities, CBM contributes in a modest way to this aim. The work of the past years has gained the organization a strong reputation on both sides of the Ibar river. Fields in which CBM works are: media, culture, youth, women, minorities, dialogue, and return of refugees and IDPs (Internally Displaced Persons).

CBMs projects are open to members of all communities living in Mitrovica and wider. CBM often cooperates with other NGOs, helps with local initiatives, and works with local governmental institutions and international organizations in order to initiate, develop, and implement activities, for the benefit of the communities, in Mitrovica and wider.

About the project:

The “Strengthening the role of youth in promoting increased mutual understanding, constructive narrative, respect for diversity, and trust in Kosovo” project aims to empower youth in Kosovo to promote intercultural dialogue, inclusion, and gender equality, while fostering mutual understanding, trust, and social cohesion in the Mitrovica Region. It falls under the categories of peacebuilding and reconciliation, intercultural dialogue, gender equality, countering hate speech, and preventing peer violence. The project facilitates direct dialogue between young activists and institutions, enhances civic engagement among young women and men, and builds cooperation and networks between youth from different communities and regions. It also addresses gender disparities in professional development and encourages youth-led initiatives to challenge harmful norms and narratives. The project seeks to utilize available resources and organizations to facilitate and promote youth participation in decision-making processes, and advocacy efforts focused on gender equality, countering divisive narratives, and addressing hate speech. Overall, the project aims to create a more connected, inclusive, and harmonious society in Kosovo through the active involvement of its youth.

CBM is seeking a qualified professional to provide non-formal education program for youth aged 15-21. The program, known as the Civic Education School (CES), is specifically designed to address intercultural dialogue, address hate speech, prevent peer violence, and promote gender equality and norms. It targets youth from vulnerable and marginalized groups in Kosovo, aiming to instill civic education values and skills. From time-to-time modifications may be made to activities in cooperation with CBM according to the specified needs that may arise during the implementation of CES. This is also envisaged in teaching strategies and methodologies. Alongside CES lectures, students will actively participate in service-learning projects, providing them with practical opportunities to make a positive impact within their communities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design and tailor activities for students based on topics/themes from the Civic Education School curriculum.
  • Conduct lectures and facilitate discussions on topics and activities as per CES updated curriculum.
  • Adhere to the schedule and commit to conducting a total of 8 sessions over a span of 2 months, with each session lasting 4 hours, starting from late June and continuing until the beginning of October 2023.
  • Provide psychological and social support/advice in term of socialization and integration of students.
  • Utilize contemporary teaching methods that are appropriate for the age group and learning objectives of the Civic Education School.
  • Engage students in service-learning projects, by fostering an environment where students are empowered to contribute their creative ideas and take responsibility for their social initiatives.
  • Create presentation and/or videos to support the lectures and activities. The videos should be clear, concise, and engaging that keep students’ attention.
  • Develop an assessment tool to be administered both at the beginning and end of the lectures in order measure any change in knowledge and perception of students.
  • Show sensitivity and understanding towards the cultural, social, and economic backgrounds of the targeted youth.
  • Modify activities and teaching strategies in cooperation with the teacher in Mitrovica North/South and CBM according to specified needs that may arise during the implementation of the program.
  • Deliver final assessment and analysis.
  • Commit to sharing information, timesheet, and reporting on important issues to the Project Manager.
  • Completing other duties as required in the project.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field such as education, social sciences, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 3 years of professional experience is required.
  • Proficiency in conducting engaging lectures and facilitating discussions to promote active learning and critical thinking among students.
  • Strong ethical standards and adherence to professional codes of conduct.
