Background

 

Community Building Mitrovica (CBM) is a local non-governmental organization (NGO) operating in the field of peace and community building in the wider region of Mitrovica, northern municipalities of Kosovo. The overall aim of CBM is to facilitate contact and dialogue between citizens in the whole of Mitrovica municipality. CBMs staff consists of devoted citizens – both Serbs and Albanians – who grew up in this region and want to restore the previous confidence and even friendship that war and politics have destroyed.

By supporting many concrete projects which address the direct needs of the local communities, CBM contributes in a modest way to this aim. The work of the past years has gained the organization a strong reputation on both sides of the Ibar. Fields in which CBM works are: media, culture, youth, women, minorities, dialogue, and return of refugees and IDPs (Internally Displaced Persons).

CBMs projects are open to members of all communities living in Mitrovica, and wider. CBM often cooperates with other NGOs, helps out with local initiatives and works with local governmental

institutions and international organizations in order to initiate, to develop and to implement activities, for the benefit of the communities, in Mitrovica, and wider.

CBM is seeking qualified individual to fill the position of Communication and Outreach Assistant (COA) for the project “Reconciliation and Conflict Transformation” (RCT).

 

The overall objective of the project “Reconciliation and Conflict Transformation” (RCT) is to help in the aims to transform existing conflicts and build peace, predominantly among majority ethnic Albanians and minority ethnic Serbs in the Kosovo. The project will help communities on the individual level as it will assist in better mutual understanding in the differences and emphasize joint strengths, as well as on the policy level, where the impact of the project will influence amending policies that will address reconciliation process among divided communities.

The project contributes to increased community engagement by creating a network of relatable role models closest to the population groups, such as influence people, community leaders, and others that they share the same value. Project activities will cover Mitrovica North & Mitrovica South Municipalities and after that it will expand in whole Kosovo. The project implementing partners are New Social Initiative and Youth Initiative for Human Rights Kosovo and is funded by US AID in Kosovo. 

 

Communication and Outreach Assistant (COA)

 

With 100% of the time and effort dedicated, the Communications and Outreach Assistant will be responsible for assisting in the communications or public relations actions within the Reconciliation and Conflict Transformation (#RCT) Activity. The Communications and Outreach Assistant will work under the direct supervision of Chief of Party, Deputy Chief of Party and Communication Officer of the RCT Project Reconciliation and Conflict Transformation Activity in Mitrovica and will primarily be responsible for the support to RCT on the overall implementation of its program in regard to the social media outreach but also assisting in planning, organizing and implementing activities for RCT and CBM if required. The Communication and Outreach Assistant (COA) will also be responsible for the content creation, content management, and outreach of the Reconciliation and Conflict Transformation (#RCT) activities on social media platforms and other promotion methods to further strengthen the #RCT’s online visibility and further outreach to a broader audience, in Mitrovica region and Kosovo.

Scope of work

  • Assisting Communication Officer in crafting and creating the content for the website and social media; FB, Instagram, Twitter, including translation of the content to local language(s).
  • Taking pictures of the implemented activities in line and accordance with the set guidelines and requirements.
  • Developing articles from the implemented activities, i.e. gatherings, meetings, workshops, etc; 
  • Working together with Communications Officer on developing press releases; promotion of the project, pamphlets, video-documentation, newsletter, etc;
  • Assisting Communication Officer in developing reports from gatherings, meetings, workshops, activities, etc;
  • Working together with the project team on developing the Annual Work Plan, Quarterly and Yearly Reports.
  • Assisting Communication Officer on the process of collecting and analysing data on the impact of the project, providing regular guidance and engagement with project partners and donors.

 

  • Developing scenarios for activities and working with the project team on organizing these events;
  • Attending bilateral meetings, taking notes, and distributing them to partners and relevant stakeholders.
  • Providing logistics and technical support during activities;
  • Overseeing and providing assistance with activities organized by project partners;
  • Managing the project SharePoint folder by collecting the data and updating the database;
  • Assisting the team in gaining a wider outreach in RCT Activities
  • Taking notes in staff meetings, project meetings, bilateral meetings, etc;
  • Accomplish other tasks as required by the project team, and will accommodate the needs and assignments of other organization-related tasks, as per management’s requests.
  • Support project staff by creating and maintaining a work environment that promotes teamwork, trust, mutual respect, and empowers staff to take responsibility.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Key qualifications

 

  • Minimum of 2 years relevant experience in a communication/outreach role;
  • Sufficient knowledge of desktop publishing software (i.e. Photoshop, and/or other designing tools).
  • Experience in photography and video recording is an asset.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, content management systems, and social media platforms.
  • Proficient in oral and written English Language.
  • Understanding other local languages different from their mother tongue is an asset.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • At least 2 years of experience working on donor-funded and/or other development programs related to civil society, with demonstrated experience working in diverse teams to achieve development results.
  • Previous involvement in similar roles with a focus on community engagement, program development, and outreach.
  • Demonstrated proactive approach in task execution and engagement with the target population, showcasing initiative and creativity in problem-solving.
  • Cultural awareness and sensitivity, especially in dealing with the nuances of the diverse-speaking areas, to facilitate effective communication and relationship-building.
  • Ability to adapt to changing circumstances, unexpected challenges, and evolving project dynamics, ensuring the continued success of the reconciliation and conflict transformation activities.
  • Experience with grants programs is preferred.
  • High integrity, strong result orientation, good communication skills. 
  • Ability and willingness to work in an inter-ethnic environment.
