About CBM:

Community Building Mitrovica (CBM) is a local non-governmental organization (NGO) operating in the field of peace and community building in the wider region of Mitrovica, and Kosovo. CBM aims to facilitate contact and dialogue between citizens primarily in the Mitrovica region as well as in the whole of Kosovo. CBMs staff consists of devoted citizens – Serbs and Albanians – who grew up in this region and want to restore the previous confidence and friendship that war and politics have destroyed. CBM identifies the common interests of the people and those translate into the actions and works to restore trust and peace between different communities in Kosovo.

About the project and the assignment:

The IEK (Interethnic Education in Kosovo) project contributes to improved interethnic relations by strengthening dialogue and exchange in educational spaces in multiethnic municipalities of Kosovo. By focusing on children in primary education (6-10 years) and including their parents, this project aims to build stronger interethnic relations.

The overall goal of the IEK project is to contribute to more social rapprochement in Kosovo.

The IEK project is implemented in partnership with CARITAS Switzerland (CaCH)and is possible thanks to the financial contribution of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany.

The project’s geographical scope is municipalities of Fushe Kosova/Kosovo Polje,Kamenica, Obiliq/Obilić, Prizren and Shtrpce/Štrpce.

One of the activities of the project is to develop Manual on interethnic education and production. Through past projects and collaboration with the local and central-level education ministries, CBM has created a thoroughly researched and professionally curated manual on peacebuilding education for primary schools. Borrowing from this manual, pedagogy experts and peacebuilding professionals will curate an additional manual to better engage the beneficiary group of elementary school students. A consensus with oversight from the implementing partner will be reached before edits are made and the manual is officially published. Gleaning from CBM’s existing manual, project experience, and success stories, the manual will then be presented to the Ministry of Education with full recommendations on how to adopt and implement the manual in the formal Kosovo curriculum.

The Manual on interethnic education will:

  1. Establish a baseline for further reflection on the state of social perceptions of ethnic reconciliation in education.
  2. Recommend positive change in the state of social perceptions on ethnic reconciliation in education.
  3. The Manual on interethnic education will give a presentation of state interethnic peacebuilding in schools.
  4. This Manual on interethnic education will be conducted with full transparency to all participating parties.
