Terms of Reference

About CBM:

Community Building Mitrovica (CBM) is a local non-governmental organization (NGO) operating in the field of peace and community building in the wider region of Mitrovica, and Kosovo. CBM aims to facilitate contact and dialogue between citizens primarily in the Mitrovica region as well as in the whole of Kosovo. CBMs staff consists of devoted citizens – Serbs and Albanians – who grew up in this region and want to restore the previous confidence and friendship that war and politics have destroyed. CBM identifies the common interests of the people and those translate into the actions and works to restore trust and peace between different communities in Kosovo.

 

About the project and the assignment:

The IEK (Interethnic Education in Kosovo) project contributes to improved interethnic relations by strengthening dialogue and exchange in educational spaces in multiethnic municipalities of Kosovo. By focusing on children in primary education (6-10 years) and including their parents, this project aims to build stronger interethnic relations.

The overall goal of the IEK project is to contribute to more social rapprochement in Kosovo.

The IEK project is implemented in partnership with CACH and is possible thanks to the financial contribution of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany.

The project’s geographical scope is municipalities of Fushe Kosova/Kosovo Polje, Kamenica, Obiliq/Obilic, Prizren and Shtrpce/Sterpca.

One of the activities of the project is to conduct a Social research study where 20 Young Professionals will simultaneously be trained and mentored on how to conduct research and quantitative/qualitative social measurements among the school officials and parents in order to compile data for a comprehensive research publication for further reflection on the state of social perceptions on ethnic reconciliation in education. Findings will be published at the end of the project cycle for a clear and timely presentation of the state interethnic peacebuilding in schools.

 

 

 

The social research study will: 

  1. Establish a baseline for further reflection on the state of social perceptions of ethnic reconciliation in education.
  2. Recommend positive change in the state of social perceptions on ethnic reconciliation in education.
  3. The study will give a clear and timely presentation of state interethnic peacebuilding in schools.
  4. This study will be conducted with full transparency to all participating parties and utilize objective information with consent from all parties that are working with the young professional during the project period.

 

Deliverables  

  1. Lead and develop a work plan for the research team (young professionals)
  2. Work with young professionals to design research methodology and tools. 
  3. Ensure quality control of research conducted by Young professionals. 
  4. Oversight of data capture and data analysis 
  5. Train and mentor young professionals on how to conduct research and quantitative/qualitative social measurements among school officials and parents in order to compile data for a comprehensive research publication for further reflection on the state of social perceptions on ethnic reconciliation in education.
  6. One social research study which is conducted by young professionals in all five municipalities, including the measurement of the attitudes of parents and education officials.
  7. Written Social research study report.  
  8. Presentation of the research findings to relevant stakeholders
  9. Raw data files 
  10. Make sure that the percentage of minority groups participating will also be factored in as a metric to demonstrate a level of equitable participation in the project implementation.

 

Required qualifications:

The following are the criteria for selection of the Social Research expert:

  • Experience in social research in peacebuilding, reconciliation, and/or relevant topics.
  • Experience in leading a team of researchers.
  • Experience in building capacities and training young researchers.
  • Experience of, or openness to, innovative approaches to social research.

 

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Professional working proficiency in English, Albanian and Serbian (it is an advantage, written and verbal).
  • Excellent research, reporting, and analytical skills. 

Desired

  • Experience in conducting social research or other reconciliation projects. 
  • Experience in conducting social research in Kosovo.
  • Experience working with all communities in Kosovo.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse ethnic group of individuals, including staff and management.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in response to changing circumstances.
