Week full of activities within ‘’Our Matters’’

In the framework of the project ‘’Our Matters’’ different activities and events are continuing with aim to increase public participation through public debates on topics related to daily life and to give citizens chance to openly voice their opinions regarding issues that affect them the most.

This week NGO "INSPIRACIJA" organized a street action performance ‘The right of Roma children and problem solving of enrolment in secondary school ’’ on the main square in North Mitrovica together with 20 young volunteers action in order to raise awareness of Roma children’s rights to attend the regular secondary schools in Mitrovica North .During this street action volunteers distributed promotional material : 7 posters published in all secondary and primary schools in Mitrovica North 10 t-sheers and 200 leaflets. In this occasion citizens had the opportunity to express their opinion related to the Roma’s children rights and problem solving of enrolment in secondary school by taking a short survey (40 questionnaires) which was disseminated during the street action.

At the same day also the public debate was organized with OSCE, CSOs and public institutions representatives, while panel was composed by two schools representatives: teachers and professors.

‘’KOHA Movement’’ a local NGO with their street action decided to tackle the problem of the implementation of Anti-Smoking Law in Mitrovica South. The theme of the performance was ‘’Breath freely – respect the Anti-Smoking Law’’ and aimed to inform citizens through creative ideas for the existence of this Law and its importance for a healthy life. Promotional material was also distributed, pictures with anti smoking motives was presented, while the volunteers of this organization chose a very interesting way of addressing this issue by handing apples to the citizens as a symbolic action for exchange of cigars with apple. ‘’KOHA Movement’’ will organize lectures with a doctor that will speak for the damages caused by smoking in different high schools of Mitrovica South.

NGO "Vredne Kolasinke" organized a street action –theater performance, presented by group of 10 students of Philosophic which performed show "Ugly Duckling ", at the preschool institution “Nase dete" in Zubin Potok, for children and their parents in order to raise awareness of discrimination problems in community and promotion of existing mechanism, equality and discrimination named " Discrimination is not a joke – let’s talk about equality”. Before the theater performance volunteers in costumes, prepared for the show distributed promotional material.

While ‘’ Mitrovica Women Association for Human Rights – MWAHR’’ with the activities that organized has put on the spotlight the importance for registration of common property in the name of two spouses.

Also ‘’NGO UZVK’’ did a street action in Zubin Potok as well as organized a debate.

‘’Our matters’’ which enables these NGOs to organize and address all this issues that concern the citizens of Mitrovica, is supported by Community Building Mitrovica and funded by PAX for PEACE.
