DISCUSSING DEALING WITH THE PAST AND TRANSITIONAL JUSTICE: STUDENTS FROM UNIVERSITY OF PRISHTINA VISIT BELGRADE


Within the semester course ‘’Transitional Justice: The role of the University in addressing the past", developed and implemented by CBM and University of Prishtina "Hasan Prishtina",(Faculty of Law) a study visit to Belgrade was organized for a group of 19 students, from 06th until 09th of July. This is the second study trip with second group of students within this project, with first one being organized in March this year.

       

The study visit program consisted of two days intensive schedule, giving the students the opportunity not only to visit Belgrade for the first time, but more importantly to hear more about the break-up of the former Yugoslavia, the mass human right violations that characterized this process and the transitional justice mechanisms in the Western Balkans. The program also included sessions on the role of youth and activism in dealing with the past, along with a Memory Walk through Belgrade-visiting significant sites that marked the 90’s.

As part of the study trip, amongst other activities the students had the chance to learn and engage in discussions with Mrs. Marijana Toma, member of Center for Euro-Atlantic Studies and prominent historian and visit Humanitarian Law Center and meet Mrs. Nataša Kandić, founder of the Center and Coordinator of the REKOM Initiative; while throughout the whole study trip the students were guided by the notable activist Jasmina Lazović.

The project ‘’Transitional Justice: The role of the University in addressing the past", is funded by the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Kosovo.
