Youth from Mitrovica North and South advance their English language skills together


On 20 October, Community Building Mitrovica organized the graduation ceremony for 40 young people from Mitrovica South and North who participated in the 2 – year course of learning English under the ‘’English Access Microscholaprship Program’’.

As the second generation of Access Program graduated, new class of 2018 Access Program - Mitrovica was presented with entry certificates. For the next two years 40 young people from North and South Mitrovica will attend this free of charge course of learning English language supported by from U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, and implemented by Community Building Mitrovica.The graduation ceremony was attended by Ambassador Mr.Greg Delawie and other representatives of the U.S. Embassy, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Academic Programs Ms.Mala Adigba, Director of Education in Mitrovica South Municipality Mr.Pajazit Hajzeri, proud parents, open public and media.

Access Program project coordinator Ms. Natasa Saveljic delivered the opening remarks. ‘’I welcome you all dear students, partners and other distinguished guests to the celebration of the 2- years of hard, successful work that is designed to recognize the accomplishments of the students and welcome the new generation’’ - said Ms.Saveljic. In her speech, she emphasized that the program aims to build young people’s skills and potentials in English language but not only, and hence serves also as a joint learning and exchanging platform for young people from North and South.

U.S. Ambassador to Kosovo Mr. Greg Delawie personally delivered the graduation certificates in the ceremony and stated in his remarks that he is happy to congratulate this gifted group of students: ‘’I am so impressed by your dedication and your perseverance, but perhaps most of all, by your willingness to use your free time to learn English and American culture’’. He advised the students to continue learning English and to seek new opportunities in which they can continue to develop their skills.

Two of the Access Program – Mitrovica graduates also shared their experience regarding the program with the audience by thanking CBM and U.S. Embassy as they noted ‘’for this rewarding and educational opportunity’’.

The ceremony concluded with the graduation certificates delivery by the Ambassador Delawie and with the delivery of the entry certificates for the new class of 2018.
